Aspermatogenesis, Anaphylaxis, and Cutaneous Sensitization Induced in T H E Guinea Pig by Homologous Testicular Extract* by Jules

چکیده
I t has been shown that a single intracutaneous injection of autologous or homologous spermia, or testicular suspension incorporated in a water-in-oil emulsion containing killed mycobacteria, induces aspermatogenesis in the guinea pig (1). This process results in the degeneration, necrobiosis, and elimination of most of the germinal cells without injury to the Leydig cells or accessory genital organs, such as the seminal vesicles and the prostate. The purpose of the present paper is to give an account of an effort to purify the antigenic material, and of observations on anaphylactic systemic and cutaneous sensitizations to homologous testicular extracts.

Aspermatogenesis, Anaphylaxis, and Cutaneous Sensitization Induced in the Guinea Pig by Homologous Testicular Extract
Guinea pig testicles were extracted with acetic acid; the extract was purified by removing material in consecutive precipitations with 30 per cent saturated ammonium-sulfate, trichloracetic acid, and chloroform. The solution so purified, when administered with complete adjuvants, was highly active in inducing impairment of spermatogenesis in guinea pigs. The activity resisted autoclaving at 15 ...
متن کاملAspermatogenesis in the Guinea Pig Induced by Testicular Tissue and Adjuvants
The injection into the dorsal skin of a suspension of guinea pig testis or spermia incorporated in a water-in-oil emulsion containing killed mycobacteria induces aspermatogenesis in guinea pigs. The injury begins with the inhibition of the maturation of spermia and proceeds through the degeneration and exfoliation of spermatids, spermatocytes, and finally spermatogonia. These germinal cells pas...
متن کاملProperties of Guinea Pig 7s Antibodies I I . Identification of Antibodies Involved in Passive Cutaneous
Passive anaphylaxis of the guinea pig has been subjected to numerous immunological studies (1). They have established for both systemic (2) and cutaneous anaphylaxis (3) the levels of specific antibody required, and the need for a latent period of sensitization (4, 5) which is generally believed to be the time required for the binding of the antibody to tissue receptors. Further evidence for an...

متن کاملReceptor-specific mediation by immunoglobulin E of antigen-induced contraction of tracheal and lung parenchymal strips isolated from the guinea pig.
The guinea pig is much like humans in the cells and mediators involved in immediate hypersensitivity reactions. However, the major anaphylactic antibody in this species is IgG1, not IgE. Recently, we have been successful in producing IgE antibody in guinea pigs. The current study examined whether guinea pig IgE antibody could mediate pulmonary smooth muscle contraction. IgE antibody to picryl a...
